A whole month has gone by since we welcomed this freckle-nosed rascal into our lives. I just really, really love her. She’s still small and mischievous but she’s slowly learning more and more commands, and she hasn’t had an accident inside in at least two weeks. Thank ye, gods of potty-training. She rings a bell by the door when she has to go out and she fixes me with the most impatiently sassy look while I pile on my boots, scarf, hat, gloves, and coat to let her out.
Our obedience class instructor recommended we institute short “time outs” whenever the puppy play-bites human skin. Well, Winnie’s favorite pastimes are nappin’, poopin’, and nippin’ at my ankles, knees, and toes. I give her two warnings where I yell, “OUCH!” and redirect with a toy. The third time she comes in for flesh (she’s like the shark from Jaws with my tootsies), I have to say, “Timeout!” and I hook her up to a short leash in the hallway and ignore her for two minutes. The first time I did it, I felt terrible. She whined and moaned and when I unhooked her after 120 seconds, she gave me this look like, “You traitorous, good-for-nothing bitch!” and ran away down the hallway. OH, TO BE A MOM! ;)
Anyway, here’s some new photos of Winnie, who is now 3 whole months old. Time, feel free to slow down. Kthanks.
