4th of July Desserts

There are few things on this precious planet I love as much as themed holiday desserts. I think it’s because it takes creativity, patience, and energy to craft a dessert that celebrates a holiday; it’s really going the extra mile.

So lift a virtual fork and strap on a bib. Let’s take a look at some George Washington-approved desserts. (Side note: no way could the First Prez eat these desserts, what with his wooden teeth). Warning: photos may cause drooling.

- Fourth of July dessert kabobs. (Meringue Bake Shop)

Fruit kebabs

- Patriotic cookie pizza. GET IN MY BELLY, YESTERDAY! (Pillsbury)

Red, white, and blue bundt cake. (Betty Crocker)

Chocolate-covered pretzels. Pretzels + chocolate = heaven on earth don’t you dare argue with me go to your room (The Ungourmet)

- My own modified recipe from last year, red (white and blue) velvet ice cream cookies sandwiches. (The Midwest Maven)

- Star spangled pie. I think this is the winner for Independence Day 2013 (SnackPicks)

- Firecracker cookies. (Cookin’ Cowgirl)

- Chocolate-dipped ice cream sandwiches. I burn. I pine. I perish. (Taste of Home)

- Red, white, and blue sugar cookies. These look sorta tough to make. But so pretty. Sooo pretty. Come here, pretty. (My Madison Bistro)

What are you guys doing for the 4th? I’m heading up to my boyfriend’s lakehouse for a four-day weekend (happy dance, happy dance). We’re going to watch a fireworks show, shop in the cute lakefront towns, waterski/wakeboard/fall down on the lake, and stuff our faces with red, white, and blue-colored food. My kinda holiday.

Be sure to check back Friday, because I’ll have my usual Round-Up posted. May the fourth be with you.

  1. I love the idea of dessert kabobs and I love making (and eating) chocolate covered pretzels!

    • Those star on the dessert kabobs just sealed the deal. I want ‘em :) And chocolate-covered pretzels are the simplest, most divine treat. Enjoy your 4th, Emily!

  2. The dessert kabobs are GREAT! What a creative idea :) I wish I were going to be in town for the 4th (I am going out of town for a wedding and the rehearsal dinner is actually tomorrow night); however, there is always next year :) I really like a lot of these though. I’m not the best baker (I’m not as patient or precise for baking) but I think I could pull a few of these off!

    • I love the star shapes on the dessert kabob! So inventive and original. Truly have never seen that one before. Enjoy your 4th, Di, even though you’ll be out of town. :)

  3. I can’t decide which looks best …. they must all be delicious!

    • You’re so right, Shari, the presentation is really good too. That’s half the fun with themed desserts! Enjoy your 4th!

  4. Yum, they all look SO delicious. I want the dipped ice cream sandwiches with sprinkles!! Happy 4th!

  5. This post is too much, I want to make all of them!! But I for real planned on making the dessert pizza, so I’ll stick with that :)

    • Oooh, great, I can’t wait to see pics! Dessert pizza on a sugar cookie sounds heavenly right about now. Enjoy your long weekend, Laurie!

  6. Okay enough with the desserts Jorie, I’m still trying to figure out the sparklers and pictures thing. I’m stuck on switching my shutter speed. Ugh!! I’ll get it in time hopefully, have a great 4th girlfriend!!!

    • Hahaha enjoy your holiday, Miss Suzie! As for the shutter speed, on my Canon Rebel, the shutter speed is displayed in a box in the far upper left corner of the display screen. It’s usually on like “1/60″ but if you turn the dial (located near the button you push to take a photo) one way, you can get it up to 4″ or 4 seconds. Good luck! Hope they turn out :)

  7. Oh my gosh. Why have I not had a dessert with sparklers in it?!?!

  8. so yummies desserts :)

  9. Amy @ Healthy and Fit for Real says:

    These look so good!

  10. I won’t go to my room, because you are right: chocolate-covered pretzels top all other foods. Getinmybelly.

  11. mouth watering !!
